A Frosty Thursday in Bella Coola

Cold and clear these past few days. Water is being sprayed on the rink and skating will start soon. I'm hoping my propane gets delivered soon so that I can stay warm!

Yoga today. I have a yoga club on Thursday afternoon for the kids. Here's the little dears doing the Goddess pose.

Here's yours truly looking like a Goddess - don't you think?

And then then there's the shoulder stand with the splits!

Thursdays from 5 - 6:30 I teach yoga for the community. Generally about 5 or 6 people come to try and fight the foe- getting old! Gotta keep those aging bodies supple and fit!

Hallowe'en and Beyond

Hallowe'en is over, Remembrance Day is but a memory, and Christmas is coming soon. For teachers, Hallowe'en is a day to dress up and act crazy along with the kids. I "dressed up" in my sari, complete with my "bought-from-the-bus-stand-fake-gold-jewelry". Most of the kids at my school had no idea what I was. They kept coming up to me and saying, "What are you supposed to be?" Well, of course I told them I was an Indian lady, and this proved slightly confusing, because they think of themselves as Indians.......! Here is the teacher costume line up!

Remembrance Day featured three different groups of kids doing songs, all led by me. I have a couple of video clips of the songs which I'll upload in a few days.

Time to start planning the Christmas concert. I've got a few ideas for the staff, including "Mary and the Elvettes" doing a version of "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me", an old Elvis favorite.

Alas, my camera has not reappeared. This means buying a new one....and deciding which one to buy. Anyone out there have a camera they really love? I'm thinking of either another Sony or a Canon.

November Rain

It's a wet and rainy day here in Bella Coola. The days have gotten shorter as we head into the time when the sun all but disappears from the Valley. Time to get ready for the Christmas concert, to write fall report cards, and to look forward to Christmas holidays. Over Christmas I will be spending 10 days at a yoga ashram in the Kootenays, just outside Nelson.

Sadly, though I am just now realizing it, one of my best friends has gone "walk-about". This translates into "my camera is missing....." or, I could say, has been stolen, though I still don't like to think that's what happened. It survived India, but seems to have succumbed in Bella Coola. Somehow I keep hoping that I've just put it somewhere unusual, and that it will turn up.....I feel blind......, and am not really into shopping around for a new one. I put some signs up today in the hope that someone out there will find my camera and be lured by my promise of a reward..........

A few weeks ago I went walking up Valley on a fine, sunny, fall day. There were lots of bear prints, though none of the actual beasties materialized beyond their sandy autographs. Here is one nice one, with the toes clearly visible.
